All it takes is a few computer clicks and a credit card number. The damage can be slight - upper-deck seats were available for the championship game for less than 0 each on some ticket sites Tuesday - or very serious. Those who'd like four tickets to all three games and to be treated like a rock star can turn to the NCAA's designated ticket reseller, which is offering what it calls the VIP Experience for a mere 0,000.
Although the semifinal and championship games technically were sold out long ago, ticket availability was never really an issue. And in truth it has not been since 1996, the last year the Final Four was held at a typical basketball arena.
With well over 50,000 tickets now available every year, the culmination of March Madness is a simple commodity, with a value driven by numerous variables and served by an ever-growing secondary ticket market.
As with any big event, from the Super Bowl to a Beyoncé concert, the secondary market is where the action is. The days of lining up in front of a box office or hoping to get a call in to an operator standing by are long gone.
The NCAA offered 53 percent of the NRG seats to the public in a lottery sale last year. How many of those who were lucky enough to get the face-value tickets and who will actually end up using them is anyone's guess. Suffice it to say a high percentage was or will be resold. And sold again, and again. Because buying tickets on the secondary market has become standard MO, the NCAA even operates its own ticket reselling website in conjunction with partners Primesport and Flash Seats.
Wait for a better deal
The NCAA claims that the advantage of using its site is that the paperless and electronically delivered tickets are guaranteed to be authentic. But Final Four offerings also are plentiful on StubHub, SeatGeek, Vividseats, and who knows how many other secondary market vendors. With 76,000 seats potentially in play, there is no shortage of sellers hoping to profit a tidy sum.
The major ticket resellers and aggregators also say there is no reason for purchasers to worry about counterfeit sales. Most offer money-back assurance, and they emphasize that shady ticket offerings are more likely to be found from street-corner vendors pushing paper tickets.
"I don't think that people should be concerned," said Chris Leyden, content analyst for SeatGeek, which aggregates ticket offerings from a variety of sites. "The biggest takeaway from this event or any event is that people should buy from a site that has a guarantee. Where people get in trouble is when they buy from someone on the street or on Craigslist or something. You want to buy on a site where those guarantees are in place. At the very least, you are going to get your money back if something goes wrong."

The NCAA men's college basketball Final Four may be coming here, but that doesn't mean the Metrodome will be teeming with regular Minnesotans when it's time to crown a national champion.
By the end of March, most of the 46,000 seats in the Metrodome will be long gone — sold to the powerful and connected.
"It's the hottest ticket for any sporting event in America with the possible exception of the Masters" golf tournament, said Bill Lester, executive director of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission.
Stiff Competition For Tickets
The general public, including Minnesota residents, did have a chance at seats — last summer. About 113,000 fans paid each to enter the random drawing for 10,000 tickets.
Because of the NCAA's national lottery for tickets, almost all of the spectators at the Final Four are tourists; 90 percent of ticket-holders will be visiting the Dome for the first time.
The NCAA also has set aside 18,000 tickets to be divided evenly among the four teams that make it into the semifinals. Those games will be played Saturday, March 31, with the winners meeting in the championship game on Monday, April 2.
At the University of Minnesota, which is serving as the host institution, many administrators and donors got a shot at the school's allocation of 1,500 tickets.
Tickets Could Fetch ,000 Each
The Twin Cities Organizing Committee, which was formed to coordinate the Final Four event, got about 5,600 tickets.
In addition, 4,000 tickets went to NCAA schools across the country for presidents and athletic directors, and 4,000 went to the National Association of Basketball Coaches, which is holding its annual convention here on the same weekend.
The balance, about 5,000, went to the NCAA, which sells the tickets to its corporate sponsors, CBS Sports and other media.
For all the groups with access to tickets, one thing is consistent: Nobody gets them free.
At face value, tickets that include all three games go for 0, 0 or 0 depending on location. Already tickets are being sold on the Internet for up to 0 each.
While it's illegal to sell tickets in Minnesota for more than face value, ticket brokers say those willing to look around — and pay from 0 to ,000 per seat — could wind up with tickets.
